Radio Frequency is a great option for skin tightening

Radiofrequency (RF) is an aesthetic skin treatment that has become increasingly popular in recent years. RF, type of energy which is measured in frequency or wavelengths per second. All forms of energy from sunlight, to heat coming off from your body to radioactive gamma rays, are classified according to the frequency on the electromagnetic spectrum.

RF is one such category on the spectrum, and on this frequency, everyday technology works including WiFi signals, radio and TV waves, and microwaves ovens. The RF energy used in skin tightening is roughly around 450 kilohertz, which is on the low end of the frequency range.

Radiofrequency targets saggy skin

RF treatments are used for skin tightening and skin firming, like LED and laser treatments RF is used energy to stimulate collagen and elastin production, but the energy that is used is heat-based rather than light-based. The RF technology uses energy to heat the dermis and tighten the skin without causing any damage to the top layer. RF remodels tissues, produces new collagen and elastin. RF treatment also causes apoptosis of fat cells, which causes the reduction of fatty tissues in the area it is being treated.

There are various options for RF machine and each has different mechanism but fundamentally they all use the energy to tighten the underlying skin structure, contour and define the face structure, tone the face and give youthful-looking skin.

How RF works?

Radiofrequency is all about stimulating and producing new collagen. An average radiofrequency takes anywhere between 20-45 minutes and there is very little downtime involved. You will experience very little redness hours afterwards but nothing more than that. You might experience slight discomfort if you have sensitive skin as the machine will heat the skin to a bearable 38-40 degree. Unlike other aesthetic treatments, this one is completely painless require no downtime and provides an even, feathered surface area without any irregularities.

RF treatment is also a better alternative to facelift and other cosmetic surgeries. RF can be also be used for the reduction of body fat especially around upper and lower abs, inner and outer thighs and it is very beneficial for upper arms also. RF can help in reducing lines and wrinkles around the nose and mouth.

Is the radiofrequency treatment safe?

As low-risk, convenient and effective as the treatments are applied the same level of scrutiny as you would for cosmetic surgery.  Can exposure to high doses of radiofrequency cause burns or will it in any way cause any harm to you? If you go to a certified and experienced cosmetologist then none of this should be a problem. A board-certified cosmetic surgeon will have the skill and experience needed to perform RF treatments. Ask a provider or the responsible nurse at the time how many times have the treatment been performed and if you are experiencing some specific issue related to your skin.

How long will the after-effects last?

While the treatment is not a quick fix there are lasting results. The treatment is not a cure-all and it takes time to work. There is no visible difference after one session of contouring and elasticity. All energy bio-stimulative treatments require a course of several sessions mostly 6-12 sessions which will induce benefits over the months. Cosmologists state that for ideal results sessions should be every three or four days.
